The Jefferson City Jays clinched their first playoff berth in five years Friday night with a 44-6 domination of arch-rival Columbia Hickman at Adkins Stadium.
The Jays rolled up 18 first downs, 166 yards rushing, and 455 total yards. Wilson was the top rusher, gaining 84 yards on 17 carries, while Coons completed 9-of-15 passes for 238 yards.

"I told the kids if we finish this tonight and get in the playoffs, you don’t know how much fun this can be," said LePage, a former Jeff City assistant who led Blair Oaks to five straight Class 2 playoff appearance from 2001-05. "The playoffs are the epitome of what every high school kid wants to go through. I said, ‘Let’s win this tonight so you all can experience it, because once you do, it’s very addictive.’ "
"I started to back up like it was a normal kickoff, but then I saw it was an onside," said Mason, a 195-pound defensive end who leads the Kewpies with seven sacks. "I just ran upfield, caught the ball and had the momentum.
The Jays will host a Class 6 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Friday against Francis Howell Central (8-2), which defeated Francis Howell North 27-16 last night for the District 5 title.
