For their season opener the Jefferson City Jays will host the Bulldogs from Springdale, AR this Friday Night at Adkins Stadium. Game time is 7:00pm.

SPRINGDALE -- Thursday night's scrimmage at Russellville featured quite an offensive battle between Springdale junior quarterback Ashton Glaser and Cyclones senior lefty Blake Humphrey.

In just one half, Humphrey completed 13-of-17 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another 43 yards on four carries. Glaser countered with 9-of-17 passes for 133 yards and a TD, plus 40 yards on three carries.

Russellville led 13-12 in first downs, but Springdale capitalized on two turnovers to win the spirited scrimmage 23-17.

Bulldogs cornerback Clint Crews had a interception, after Humphrey had completed his first six tosses.

"We played hard, but we have a lot of mistakes to correct," Springdale coach Kevin Johnson said.

Linebackers Brandon Jefferies and A.J. McCulley showed promise with some big hits in the sophomore scrimmage, in which Jefferies temporarily lost his mouthpiece on the field.

The Bulldogs open at Jefferson City, Mo., on Friday, while Russellville goes to Morrilton. The Cyclones of 7A Central come to Fayetteville on Sept. 7, when Springdale hosts Alma.
