Jays, Lady Jays will limp into C.C. Relays

Jefferson City's powerful track and field program has had:

* The inconvenience of no home practice facility due to the renovations at Adkins Stadium. The team's practices have been split up, along with the coaches.

* The inconvenience of lousy weather.

* And most critically - a series of injuries, some to their top-flight competitors, which will leave both the Jays and Lady Jays limping into Saturday's 49th Annual Capital City Relays at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

Lady Jays dominate Capital City Relays

The Jefferson City Lady Jays limped into Saturday's 49th annual Capital City Relays with a variety of aches and pains and bumps and bruises.

All they did was win 10 events.

Led by two individual titles by Stephanie Johnson, the Lady Jays rolled up 215 points to wallop runner-up Lee's Summit North by 90 points on a wet, chilly, miserable day at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

Johnson was the best of the best, as she won the 100-meter dash and triple jump, and also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team.

Other first-place finishers for the Lady Jays were:

* Briana Watson in the 1600-meter run.

* Alicia Anderson in the 3200-meter run.

* Leslie Farmer in the 100-meter hurdles.

* Erin Alewine in the high jump.

* Heather Green in the pole vault.

* Emilea Old in the shot put.

* The distance medley relay team.

The Flyers won the title with 150 points, and the Jays were second with 141.5.

The Jays had one individual champ, Zach Carey in the pole vault, while the 4x800-meter relay team also took first.

Why didn't Raytown South bring a bunch of their top athletes? I drove up from Sedalia to see some of their jumpers but they didn't come. What a disappointment!
