McCluer North Stars

The Jefferson City Jays will meet the McCluer North Stars in their season opener this Saturday in St. Louis (Florissant) at 1pm.

A bit about McCluer North.

An article on St. Louis Today, McCluer North figures to contend despite key personnel losses, paints an optimistic picture for the McCluer North Stars.

Excerpts:

Despite not having the personnel that accounted for 450 of the 474 points Coach Jim Schottmueller's team scored last year while going 11-1 and advancing to the Class 5 quarterfinals - the Stars lost to Kirkwood 28-7 in that round - it's probably a safe bet that the Stars will be back in the thick of things in the race for the Suburban North Conference crown.

Schottmueller would have liked to see some of the players from the school's state-champion basketball team come out to help the team reload, but he said it didn't happen.

"They always say they're going to play, but it's too tough for them," he said. "They could be some great football players."

As it was, though, McCluer North had a fantastic turnout. Schottmueller said 180 attended to the school's camp and he had to cut some from the team.

I guess calling the basketball players a bunch of wimps hasn't helped convince them. :-)
