Rockhurst Next

Next up could be the toughest match-up of the regular season. The Jays will see if they have what it takes to knock off the Rockhurst Hawklets. They'll probably be reviewing the game between Blue Springs and Rockhurst to see what allowed the Wildcats to pull out a win against the Hawklets. Blue Springs beat Rockhurst in overtime during their 9/13 matchup. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night, but was postponed until Saturday due to tornadoes and lightning in the area.

One can only guess that it will take 4 quarters of solid football to have a chance.

One goal that many of the players had for this season was to beat Rockhurst. We should see how much they really want it.

Rockhurst too much for Mullen to handle

The Rockhurst football team isn't nationally ranked anymore, but the Hawklets certainly proved themselves against one of Colorado's best teams Friday night.

Rockhurst (2-1) was ranked 11th in the nation by USA Today last week, but it lost to local rival Blue Springs 28-21, which ended a 15-game Hawk- lets win streak.

Mullen ran the ball effectively, with Ford gaining 72 yards on 13 carries and Adonis Ameen-Moore gaining 35 on nine carries. But the Mustangs' tackling was sloppy and defenders frequently were victimized by Scheelhaase's draws and passes thrown back across the field.

“We played our most complete game this season,” Scheelhaase said. “We wanted to go out there and prove that we were back in business.”

“He’s a highly skilled athlete, and they utilize his strengths well,” Mullen coach Dave Logan told the Rocky Mountain News. “He’s got some talent surrounding him, too.”
