St. Rita makes a statement

St. Rita's Jahwon Akui said the Mustangs wanted to send a message.

Mission accomplished.

Akui ran for 222 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries and the Mustangs defense forced six turnovers as St. Rita ran over Jefferson City (Mo.) 35-14 Sunday in the City of Champions Classic at Clyde C. Jordan Stadium.
"I couldn't have done it without the offensive line. They made a lot of holes," Akui said. "Then when I broke into the secondary, I was able to put it in a second gear and the defenders were still in first gear."

The Jays (1-1) scored first on a 28-yard pass from Sam Turner to Jeremy Tisdale with 55.4 seconds left in the first quarter. But Akui answered back on the Mustangs ensuing play from scrimmage as he burst free for a 70-yard touchdown run.
"We finished the game," St. Rita coach Todd Kuska said. "In the second half we had good drives and the defense has played really well. We now have forced 10 turnovers in two games."

But it was all Mustangs (2-0) after that.
