Jays' Carey sets pole vault record at Missouri Relays
Led by Zach Carey's record-setting performance in the pole vault, the Jefferson City Jays won three events on Friday in the first day of the Ninth Annual Missouri Relays.
Carey cleared 14 feet to break the previous record of 13-6, which was co-owned by Jefferson City's Ben Licklider.
Other winners for the Jays were Derrick Shepherd in the long jump (21-5 1/4) and Travis Ruth in the discus (156-3).
The Jefferson City Lady Jays posted one win, as Erin Alewin finished first in the high jump.
Farmer shines at Relays
Leslie Farmer was a double-winner for the Jefferson City Lady Jays on Saturday during the final day of the Ninth Annual Missouri Relays.
Farmer, a senior who has signed with the University of Missouri, won the 400-meter dash in 58.58 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 45.93.
Also for the Lady Jays, Erin Alewine's time of 15.36 earned her a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. In addition, Jefferson City notched a first-place finish in the distance medley.
On the boys side, Derrick Shepherd and Henry Williams were individual winners for the Jays.
Shepherd, who won the long jump on Friday, captured the triple jump crown with a mark of 44-7. Shepherd was also a member of the Jays' winning 4x400-meter relay team.
Williams won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44.
