Jays, Lady Jays extend district track championship streaks
The Jefferson City Lady Jays and Jays romped to easy wins in the Class 4 District 5 track and field meet Saturday.
The Lady Jays racked up 214 points while winning their 12th straight district title. They easily outdistanced Hickman, which was second with 82 points, in the 11-team event.
Jefferson City advanced 22 girls in 24 events to the sectional meet, which will be held Saturday at Camdenton. The top-four finishers in each event qualified for sectionals.
Stephany Johnson and Leslie Farmer led the way for the Lady Jays, as each won three events. Johnson won the 100-meter dash (12.43), 200-meter dash (25.53) and triple jump (36-3); while Farmer took first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.76), 400-meter dash (59.49) and 300-meter hurdles (46.75).
On the boys side, Jefferson City won its 13th straight district title by putting up 149 points. Francis Howell North was second with 99 points.
Jefferson City advanced 19 boys in 19 events to the sectional meet.
Derrick Shepherd was the top individual for the Jays, as he won the long jump (22-5) and triple jump (43-9 1/2).
