Jays romp Hawks
The win snaps a two-game Homecoming losing streak for the fifth-ranked Jays (5-1), who had lost three of their previous four to the Hawks (3-3).
Aaron Terrill capped the drive on a 2-yard plunge, which was the first of his three touchdowns. The junior fullback finished with 72 yards on 13 carries.
The defense then stepped up and stopped the Hawks - who beat the Jays 31-28 last season - with a three-and-out. After a low snap was bobbled by punter Kyle Harris, Zach Seales blocked the punt attempt out of the end zone for a safety to give the Jays a 9-0 lead with 3:26 left in the first quarter.
The Jays made it 16-0 on a 4-yard run by Terrill with 2:06 left in the first, before Brad Allen hooked up with Roland Mitchell on a 37-yard score with 21 seconds left in the frame.
The third of Jay Harness' six extra points made it 23-0, and it was basically over.
A 9-yard run by Terrill made it 30-0 with 8:43 left in the first half. The Hawks got their only score on a 4-yard run by Raynell Ferguson, before Allen sprinted 20 yards for a score late in the half to make it 37-7 at the break.
The Jays finished the scoring on a 2-yard run by Desmond Wilson late in the third quarter. Wilson now has 1,040 yards and 16 touchdowns in six games this season.
The Jays racked up 23 first downs, 246 yards rushing and 393 total yards. Allen completed 10-of-11 passes for 147 yards.
