Football runs in the family in Missouri's capital and the Jay's record-setting quarterback plays for more than just himself.

Brad's teacher is his dad Randy. Just like his son, he started at quarterback for the Jays back in 1969 and '70.

"To get a state championship, it would mean the world to me. Ever since I was little, every time I looked out here, I was like, 'I want to play'," Brad said. "I finally get that shot and I've succeeded. To finish it with a state title would be awesome."

Columbia Tribune

The Good with the Bad
District rematches remain a sore spot.

The first week of the new high school football playoff format weeded out a few of the postseason pretenders.

Five area teams bit the dust - four by margins larger than 27 points! - leaving five squads left to represent the Tribune’s coverage area.

On Friday in a Class 6 quarterfinal, fifth-ranked Fort Zumwalt West (9-2) meets fourth-ranked Jefferson City (8-2) in a district rematch of a game the Jays won 56-55 on Oct. 24 in O’Fallon.

The potential for rematches between district champions and district runner-ups in the second round of the playoffs was a common complaint by opponents of the new system, and it will be a common theme this week.
