Rock Bridge loaded on the defensive line

Excerpts:
The Pittsburgh Steelers used a fearsome front four led by Mean Joe Greene to win four Super Bowls in the 1970s.

Similarly, Rock Bridge is hoping four lean, mean linemen in green will turn around the Bruins’ fortunes.

Ofodile is counting on his front four to lead a defense that returns only three starters and held only one opponent under 32 points last year while allowing 37.9 points a game.

09/05/2009 Not quite there yet

Excerpts:
The Rock Bridge football team hasn’t completely turned the corner from consecutive 1-9 seasons, but, following a 31-14 loss to Hazelwood Central last night on Sells Field, it could be said that the Bruins are halfway there.

Rock Bridge (1-1) stood toe-to-toe with the defending state champions and second-ranked team in Class 6 to trail only 17-14 at halftime, but a stagnant second-half and four costly turnovers kept the Bruins from completing the job.

“They’re extremely fast,” Carmichael said. “A lot faster than our team, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t have done better against them.”

09/06/2009 Bruins drop ball vs. Hawks

Excerpts:

“I think a year ago, this team completely folds,” Ofodile said. “There was a temptation for a moment to say, ‘Here we go again,’ but our older leaders really rallied and got on guys and decided they were going to fight.”

Rock Bridge needed its offense to stay hot in the second half, but it fizzled under the pressure of Hazelwood Central’s swarming defense. Rock Bridge collected only one first down on its first four possessions after halftime.
