Missouri High School Championship Coverage

One can go to the Missouri State High School Athletic Associations (MSHSAA) special website to catch video from High School Championship Sporting events.

Excerpts from MSHSAA announcement:

The Missouri State High School Activities Association in partnership with When We Were Young Productions have launched MSHSAA.tv. The website will contain live game action, as well as archived events and highlight summaries at no cost to the viewer.

While this year’s softball championship will be the first content added to the site, other events will be added in the near future. The site will contain past championship broadcasts in football and basketball. Fans will also be able to purchase DVDs of both current year championships and re-mastered videos of past championships. Championship events won’t be the only feature to the site as regular season contests may also be added as soon as this winter.

Sportsmanship

As there seems to be a lot of negativity in the news these days, it is always nice to be reminded that you can find examples of Teamwork, Sportsmanship, and Compassion as evidenced in the story noted in the last post. As such, I thought I would post another example from 2008.

Just one of the definitions of Sportsmanship:

Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.

Teamwork for a Touchdown

From the Kansas City Star:

Rivals cooperate on touchdown for player with Down syndrome

Excerpt:

Matt Ziesel doesn’t stray far from coach Dan McCamy on the sidelines during St. Joseph Benton High School’s freshman football games. He likes to stay within earshot.

“I’m ready, Coach. … Coach, I’m ready,” Ziesel says.McCamy says he hears it about 10 times a game, and also at practices, from Ziesel, his 5-foot-3, 110-pound running back. click for whole story...

No Pics (from me)

No pics from Friday's game, but I did catch a bit of the action taking place uptown Thursday night as the Freshmen were pummeling Oakland Jr. over at Adkins Stadium.

So for a change of pace you can click the pic below for some more pics from Thursday's stage of the Tour of Missouri that made its way to the Capital City.

You can also catch Pam's sideline pics from the game on her site.

The Bruins are Next Up.

Helmet image courtesy of Mike Gardner.

A bit closer to home the Jays will travel to Columbia next Friday night to take on the Rock Bridge Bruins.

HighSchoolSports.net picks the Jays to win this contest 38-18.

Bruins in the news:

Columbia Daily Tribune

Rock Bridge loaded on the defensive line

Excerpts:
The Pittsburgh Steelers used a fearsome front four led by Mean Joe Greene to win four Super Bowls in the 1970s.

Similarly, Rock Bridge is hoping four lean, mean linemen in green will turn around the Bruins’ fortunes.

Ofodile is counting on his front four to lead a defense that returns only three starters and held only one opponent under 32 points last year while allowing 37.9 points a game.

09/05/2009 Not quite there yet

Excerpts:
The Rock Bridge football team hasn’t completely turned the corner from consecutive 1-9 seasons, but, following a 31-14 loss to Hazelwood Central last night on Sells Field, it could be said that the Bruins are halfway there.

Rock Bridge (1-1) stood toe-to-toe with the defending state champions and second-ranked team in Class 6 to trail only 17-14 at halftime, but a stagnant second-half and four costly turnovers kept the Bruins from completing the job.

“They’re extremely fast,” Carmichael said. “A lot faster than our team, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t have done better against them.”

09/06/2009 Bruins drop ball vs. Hawks

Excerpts:

“I think a year ago, this team completely folds,” Ofodile said. “There was a temptation for a moment to say, ‘Here we go again,’ but our older leaders really rallied and got on guys and decided they were going to fight.”

Rock Bridge needed its offense to stay hot in the second half, but it fizzled under the pressure of Hazelwood Central’s swarming defense. Rock Bridge collected only one first down on its first four possessions after halftime.

Coaches Summer

Some people wonder what the coaches do in the off season. Well, it is no longer a mystery. They are working just as hard during the off-season, as they do during the season.

*JibJab video once posted here no longer available.

All fun aside, the coaches of Jay sports do put a lot of time in above and beyond what is required. Thanks coaches.
