Jays’ and Crusaders’ first home football games blocked out

Jefferson City Schools Superintendent Bert Kimble said Thursday the Jays have reached an agreement with Lincoln University to play their Sept. 12 game against Fayetteville, Ark., at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

“We’re going to move the first game ... because the track is incomplete,” Kimble explained. “The contract (allowed) for about 30 days of rain.”

But Mid-Missouri’s had 70-90 days of rain, delaying some of the construction work.

JC stadium not ready for first home game

"We're going to move the first game to Lincoln University because the track is not complete," says Jefferson City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Bert Kimble. "Obviously you don't want to corrupt the integrity of the track by using it before it's completly done. Also don't want to void a warranty."

Kimble blames mother nature and turf installers on the missed deadline, not the track construction team.

Kimble says, despite days and days of rain this spring and summer, Jefferson City industries was only one day behind schedule, July 3 instead of July 2, in getting the project ready for the installation of field turf.

Springdale offers another big test for Jays

“We're not the biggest line out there, so we've got to be really, really good with our technique,” LePage said. “I felt like, at times, our technique was very good but at other times, we let down.

“But they did their job. And it was exciting to watch because as the game wore on, they got better. That's one thing I was really pleased with.”
